Suggested Activities / Trips:
A highly suggested trip would be to travel between San Ramon, Tigra, Fortuna, Tabacon, and Lake Arenal. Whatever direction you go, it will be well worth your time. It could easily be a three-day trip if you stay in Tabacon and Lake Arenal. Some of your journey may very well be in the clouds, but don’t get discouraged. If it is raining hard, we wouldn’t suggest risking it unless you had 4-wlieel drive. At Tabacon, you will find a beautiful hotel and set of pools that have been built using the natural heated water from the volcano. Although a bit pricey, check out www.tabacon.com
La Carolina Lodge:
I’ve stayed here a number of times and it has been great each time. It is a very rural and beautiful setting on a river, at the base of Volcano Tenorio – north of Volcano Arenal and southeast of Liberia. It runs about $70 US per person per night and includes all of your meals as well as guided tours and horseback riding. If you want to experience the rain forest in a very rural setting (no electricity), this is well worth getting off of the beaten path. Their web page is www.lacarolinalodge.com (to my knowledge, there is no phone).
